About KrakenD
KrakenD is a high-performance open-source API Gateway, built for demanding, low-latency environments. With over 2 million active instances each month, it powers fast, scalable API infrastructure across enterprises and high-growth startups.
Objective
Albert Garcia, Business Director at KrakenD, wanted to:
- Identify which companies and developers were actively using their open-source software
- Reduce the manual effort required to enrich and act on that activity
- Automate personalized outreach to convert usage into meaningful conversations
They had previously piloted Scarf, which provided company-level data - but no visibility into which developers were involved, how they engaged, or how to act on that data. To get even basic contact information, they had to stitch together enrichment tools and workflows manually
Strategy & Execution
Tools Used:
- Reo.Dev (Developer intent signals)
- N8N (Workflow automation)
- Meet Alfred (LinkedIn automation)
1. Unified Signals from Multiple Sources
KrakenD’s open-source API gateway is used by over 30,000 companies. While they had visibility at the account level, they lacked insights into individual developer behavior and engagement depth.. They knew which companies were running their software, but not who the individual users were, what they were doing, or where they were in the adoption journey.
Reo.Dev changed that by unifying signals across:
- GitHub stars and repo activity
- Website visits and documentation views
- Actual usage from open-source deployments and CLI interactions
This multi-source visibility helped KrakenD pinpoint both companies and individual developers actively engaging with their product.
“We didn’t just get GitHub activity-we saw website visits, repo stars, even usage from CLI. That multi-source visibility was a game-changer.”
- Albert Garcia, Co-Founder and Business Director, KrakenD
2. Automated Enrichment and Outreach
Before Reo.Dev, KrakenD’s team manually pieced together company intel, enriched contacts, and uploaded them to their outreach tools-a time-consuming process.
With Reo.Dev, they’ve now automated the full workflow:
Step 1: Detect high-intent activity
Reo.Dev identifies companies engaging with KrakenD’s open-source project-via website visits, GitHub stars, and usage signals.
Step 2: Enrich with buyer and developer contacts
For each engaged company, Reo.Dev provides relevant technical and business contacts-categorized by role (e.g., developer vs. buyer).
Step 3: Automate lead routing with N8N
KrakenD uses N8N to:
- Exclude accounts already in their CRM
- Automatically push new, enriched leads into Meet Alfred
Step 4: Launch tailored LinkedIn outreach
In Meet Alfred, contacts are enrolled in persona-specific sequences:
- Developers receive offers for help optimizing KrakenD, including free audit sessions
- Buyers receive messaging around performance, security, and lower maintenance overhead
“What took us days manually is now fully automated. That’s a huge time win for a small team like ours.”
- Albert Garcia, Co-Founder and Business Director, KrakenD
3. Turning Open-Source Usage Into a Consistent Lead Engine
KrakenD sees usage from over 30,000 companies every month through their open-source gateway-but before Reo.Dev, this was anonymous traffic.
Now, Reo.Dev surfaces which companies are running their software, who within those companies is engaging, and how frequently. This lets KrakenD:
- Prioritize accounts with sustained usage or repo interest
- Understand level of engagement before reaching out
- Continuously feed SDR pipelines with warm, high-signal leads
These leads are automatically enriched, qualified, and routed into outreach-ensuring KrakenD’s small team only spends time on the most relevant opportunities.
“We’re seeing real usage across 30,000+ companies. Reo.Dev helps us turn that activity into a real GTM engine.”
- Albert Garcia, Co-Founder and Business Director, KrakenD
Results
- Reduced manual lead processing time from days to near zero
- End-to-end workflow automation for surfacing open-source users and initiating outreach
- Meaningful conversations initiated from high-signal accounts, with stronger engagement expected in the next quarter
“Working with Reo.Dev has been one of the best onboarding experiences I’ve had. The team is incredibly responsive-every piece of feedback is acted on quickly-and the product itself is evolving at a remarkable pace. We feel genuinely supported.”
